The Regent of Limapuluh Kota Safaruddin Datuak Bandaro Rajo officially opened the Integrated Field Lecture (KLT) from the Department of Biology, FMIPA, Padang State University (UNP) in Harau, Limapuluh Kota, Saturday (21/5).

The KLT activity that took place in Harau was a series of collaboration between the Biology Department of UNP and the Limapuluh Kota Regency Government which involved the Tourism Office and the Limapuluh Kota Regency Education Office.

The Regent of Limapuluh Kota, Safaruddin Datuak Bandaro Rajo expressed his gratitude to the Department of Biology at UNP which carried out KLT in Limapuluh Kota Regency.

“We very much welcome the UNP Biology KLT held in Harau, Fifty Cities. It is hoped that UNP has an important role in improving the economy by supporting ecotourism which is continuously being developed by the Limapuluh Kota Regency Government," he said.

Safaruddin Datuak Bandaro Rajo also appreciated the collaboration between Limapuluh Kota Regency and UNP so far.

"The cooperation that exists between the Limapuluh Kota Regency Government and UNP must continue. This is aimed at the development and development of the Limapuluh Kota Regency,” he added.

Head of UNP Biology KLT Activities Drs. Mades Fifendy, M.Biomed explained, as many as 700 students from the Biology Department of UNP, 120 junior and senior high school students in the Limapuluh Kota Regency and Agam Regency, were involved in KLT in Harau, Limapuluh Kota.

"Thank you to the Limapuluh Kota Regency Government for supporting the implementation of Biology KLT activities in Harau. KLT aims to implement Biology theory that students learn in the field,” he explained.

Mades Fifendy added that the continuation of this KLT is expected to be a camping spot for tourists by prioritizing ecotourism development.
"The KLT that we are doing is a continuation of the collaboration between the Department of Biology, UNP and the Department of Tourism and the Education Office of the Limapuluh Kota Regency. We hope that this location can be used as an ecotourism-based tourist location," he concluded.

UNP Biology KLT was also attended by Deputy Chancellor III UNP, Drs. Hendra Syarifudin, Ph.D. According to him, currently UNP has become a Legal Entity State University (PTN BH) and has won the best national rankings in three categories of Main Performance Indicators (IKU).

Hendra Syarifudin added, the Department of Biology at UNP is the only department at UNP that has received international accreditation from Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatics, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematics (ASIIN) for six years without conditions.

"By getting ASIIN accreditation, UNP Biology Department for the next six years, of course students and teachers will not hesitate in choosing UNP Biology Department as a study destination in higher education," he concluded.

In addition to carrying out KLT activities, the Biology Department of UNP also carries out community service involving biology teachers in Limapuluh Kota Regency and Payakumbuh City.

Hendra Putra as Chair of the West Sumatra Biology Subject Teacher Consultation (MGMP) explained that the training provided by UNP Biology lecturers to Biology and Science teachers was very useful.

According to him, this Biology teacher at SMAN 2 Tilatang Kamang, a lecturer from UNP provides a case-based learning method that can be applied to students at school.

“UNP lecturers gave us a case-based learning method to be applied when delivering teaching materials in schools. With this method, students can create a critical way of thinking about teaching materials,” he said.(ktk)
