Padang-- To make a real contribution to the environment, UNP established the Research Center for Organic Waste Management (CRROWM; Center of Research on Recycling Organic Waste Management). Research Center chaired by Prof. Dr. Azwir Anhar, M.Si (Lecturer of Biology FMIPA UNP) has a vision and mission to comprehensively and sustainably study the use of organic waste into something of value, so that it can change the perspective and behavior of the community in managing organic waste independently. The establishment of this research center is also an effort to support the role of UNP as a member of the UI Green Metric, which has a vision of showing its role and participation in realizing a sustainable green campus.

In the Soft launching of CRROWM conducted through a focus group discussion (FGD) (28/12), Secretary of CRROWM Siska Alicia Farma, S.Pd., M.Biomed said that in its activities, CRROWM will focus on optimizing organic waste processing through research, education activities. , training and, dedication. Downstreaming of activities carried out by CRROWM is expected to produce products with economic value/sales which will support UNP's position as a university with PTN BH status.

To achieve its vision and mission, CRROWM has 4 divisions with coordinators and members consisting of: (1) Research and Development : Prof. Dr. Abdul Razak, M.Si, Resti Fevria, S.Tp., M.P, Dr. Dwi Hilda Putri, M. Biomed.; (2) Education and Training: dr. Elsa Yuniarti, M. Biomed, Dr. Violita, M.Sc., Dr. Eka Vidya Putra, S.Sos., M.Sc. (3) Public Relations and Cooperation at home and abroad: Prof.Dr. Indang Dewata, M.Si; (4) Socialization, Publication, and Downstreaming; Eka Yusmaita, M.Pd, Andril Arafat, ST, M.Eng, Ph.D and Treasurer Yeniwati, S.E., M.E.

Of the several planned programs, an important step that will be taken by CRROWM in the near future is to establish cooperation with various parties. According to the Coordinator of the CRROWM Domestic and Foreign Cooperation Division, Prof. Dr. Indang Dewata, M.Si, Indonesia is in a waste emergency position, where organic waste dominates up to 60%. This condition is touching the synergy of all parties to unravel the existing problems. It is necessary to cooperate with various parties so that the handling of waste (especially organic waste) can be carried out optimally.

At the conclusion of the FGD, the Chairperson of CRROWM again reminded the participants and members of CRROWM of the directions given by the Head of LP2M Yohandri, Ph.D, where the purpose of establishing a research center at UNP was to be a research strength for universities to be able to develop themselves as institutions capable of producing technological innovation, new scientific concepts and technological products that can be applied to society or industry.
